Shyam Benegal says 'Udta Punjab is 'technically brilliant'

There had been rumours that the Udta Punjab producers would take the film to Shyam Benegal- who heads the revamp committee, the team that is in charge of bringing about changes in the way the Central Board of Film Certification functions.
No prizes for guessing why. Phantom Films and Balaji Motion Pictures wanted the man, who is modern in his ways of looking at cinema, to have an opinion and if possible send it to the I & B Ministry.
Now whether he's going to do that or not, we do not know- but yes, Benegal has finally seen the film based on the drug menace in Punjab.
When contacted, Benegal said, "Yes, I saw Udta Punjab. Vikas Bahl showed me the film."
Would you like the film to be cleared in its original form, we asked? "Look, I am no authority to say if a film should be passed or not. All I can tell you is that Udta Punjab is technically brilliant."
